The Bone Seeker An Edie Kiglatuk Mystery Edie Kiglatuk Mysteries M J McGrath Books

MJ McGrath has written another amazing mystery in the Edie Kiglatuk series! I've enjoyed each of these books, and have learned a little about Inuit culture as well. This one is both a murder mystery and a larger story about racism, fraud, and cover-up. Some people are not who you think they are. As someone who hates the cold weather, and is baffled when characters in 10 degrees C (50 degrees F) find it uncomfortably warm, I find this series extremely compelling. Edie is in her element in the frozen Arctic. She is brave and daring, and can withstand far more than us "southerners" can. The story gets complex, but is still easy to follow. I look forward to the next tale about Edie Kiglatuk!

The Bone Seeker An Edie Kiglatuk Mystery Edie Kiglatuk Mysteries M J McGrath Books Reviews

The mystery was not as mysterious as I had hoped. Too many threads of red herrings laid across the path and villains too numerous. The book is ready for television with not enough character development for grownups to care. Moments of delight in a mish mosh of empty threats.
The first of this series I've read. Really enjoyed the word pictures of the Artic. Believieable characters and plot and I had no idea who the killer was. Look forward to reading more in the series.
I would have rated this 4 stars had it been more tightly edited. Long sections of the book were quite unnecessary to the progress of the plot. Even so it was a fair read and developed with decent charcaters.
Interesting, informative read about the various cultures in the Eskimo population plus a great whodunit. Enjoyed but
Moves slowly at times.
This book deals with a subject as current as today's headlines. When a young woman's body is discovered in a radioactive lake in the Arctic the cause of death is first attributed to drowning. But a chilling discovery soon makes it clear that something more sinister is at work.
The cultural aspects of the Inuit was very interesting. The plot was exciting, and interesting as well. Good characters, too. How much more could you ask for?

I would give it 4 1/2 if I could. The story dragged a little near the middle of the book, but it was great otherwise.
The murder was at the bottom of it, but the mystery evolved into a frightening reality. I remembered some of the history of the Inuit people in that country so I became engrossed in some of the insights this story detailed. I could have skipped the descriptions of food (gag) but in whole all people of the "south" should read this well written book.
