I was pleasantly surprised with this book. It sounded interesting and so I bought it. It was more than worth the money - and I've recommended it to all my friends. It's a different read - not your "typical" paranormal romance (not to bash those, because I love them!) but it was great to not have your typical love story/triangle and know the plot within the first 20 pages of the book.

Olivia has lost everything. Her family is dead, she's living with an aunt who's known more for her flightiness than her staying power and to top it all off she's now expected to move to a dinky little town in the middle of nowhere. She's finding out more and more that things aren't what they seem. Her parents weren't all that they appeared to be, and the lies keep piling up.

I LOVED SHADE in this book and got a great deal of pleasure reading the banter between Livi and Shadow. I wanted to slap Trent several times for not protecting Livi and acting like a Neanderthal 30 minutes later...The characters were believable and witty - it made for a fantastic beach read and an even better RE-READ in bed.

It was a great book overall. I had a little bit of a rough start getting into the story at first, but once Shade was introduced, I was hooked! I'd definitely recommend it, it's got action, mystery and a whole lot of repressed feeling between Livi and Shade.

GREAT JOB Ms. Harman!!! I'm eagerly awaiting Book #2!!

I enjoyed this book. I love how I was only given snippets of information so that I could ponder on what was really taking place. I'm not a big fan of giving away what happens in the story, but I do want to share my opinion on some of the characters and the plot.

I love the heavy responsibility that is being shoved down Olivia's throat, and I have a feeling that I am going to enjoy watching her growth in book two of this series. I'm not a big fan of her aunt, and a part of me is hoping that she is really one of the bad people in disguise (lol). Actually, the only adults I did like are Shade and Shadow's parents and Hattie.

There were times in the story where I was completely enthralled in the moment, but there were several times where I had to stop and reread because the scene seemed to jump too quickly for me. I had a hard time visualizing the introduction of many of the action scenes because they just seemed to happen all of a sudden. I guess I wanted to be eased into it a little more or to have had more description. I don't know.

There were some grammar/spelling issues at some points (mostly toward the end), but they didn't take away from the enjoyment of reading the story.

I really liked Olivia's character. I liked her frailty and her confusion. I liked the fact that she had panic attacks and had difficulty coping. It was a genuine reaction to what she went through. I also love the fact that we found out why those things really were taking place toward the end of the story.

Trent...I don't see the connection between him and Olivia. Honestly, he always seemed like such a jerk to me. I can't understand why Olivia would have given him any time from the getgo. I don't feel chemistry at all between them, so I'm hoping that she either ditches him soon, or the author revs up the chemistry because I don't see any reason for them to be together, unless he's the one manipulating her. Not likely, but if he is, I still need to see something "more" happening.

Shade and Shadow... I love them both! I actually like Shadow more than Shade, especially toward the end of book one. And I have a feeling that Olivia, although she won't admit it, will start feeling the same way.

I have lots of ideas rolling around in my head about why Olivia was breached so easily (or rather, why she keeps joining so easily with others), but I'll wait until I read book two to see if I'm right. And I will definitely read book two. It's a great story, and I am curious about how everything will get resolved. -)
I really liked the characters in the book! I could picture them in all the different settings! Very entertaining and can't wait for the next one!
Brush of Shade is one of those surprise readings that i come across on ....amazing writer wonderful characters and i'm chewing my nails off waiting for the next book! Jan Harman is my new addiction!
Love this book! I'm so hooked
Captivated me until the very end. Great coming of age, mystery, paranormal, and innocent young love blossoming book. The action was great, but it was the moments in between that grabbed my heart. The background details sprinkled throughout the book pulled me in deeper. I really felt for Shade. The poor guy is so conflicted. The next volume can't come soon enough. I want to keep reading to find out what will happen with the Trent and Shade situation. I need my fix of Shade's glacier eyes and that voice to die for.
I was surprised how much this story drew me in, I couldn't put it down!

The characters were well-developed, and I am excitedly awaiting the next book to find out what happens next.

There were a few parts that jumped around, and I had to turn back to see if I missed a page. But on the whole, the story was fantastic. Unlike any paranormal novel I've read. You can't help but fall in love with complicated Olivia and mysterious Shade.

Brush of Shade is an excellent mixture of fantasy, sweet romance, and mystery that holds the reader
captive to the very last page. I devoured this book in a reading marathon. Like Olivia, I was determined to
know what was going on. I think Olivia handled the bombshell dropped on her life in a realistic way -
shock, denial, curiosity, and eventually acceptance. I loved all the background information that added to
the intrigue. Shade is such a dynamic character. An alpha who won't compromise on his values and when
it comes to Olivia's safety - all I can say is this hot guy delivers on those promises. I loved that even
though her world has crumbled, Olivia doesn't back down to Shade. I loved the tension between Trent
and Shade over Olivia. I can't wait to read more to see what happens there. Don't even get me started
on Shadow, Shade's equally hot twin. I hope the next book has more scenes with him. Writing this review reminds me of favorite parts. I've
got some re-reading to do. Buy this book!
